Sequence Locations

Sequence Locations lets you give each location in a site a numeric sequence value, so the locations can be worked in a deliberate order rather than whatever order they happen to be listed in. Travel time between locations is a major part of the time spent picking in a warehouse, so laying out locations in a logical walking path, and numbering them to match, helps your team move through a site efficiently instead of backtracking. This page covers setting and adjusting that sequence.

  • Sequence Locations is a Complete-edition feature. If you don’t see it in the Settings (gear) menu, your account is on the Basic edition and doesn’t include it.
  • You’ll need a role with permission to manage settings.
  • Sequencing is done one site at a time: choose the site first, and optionally narrow the list further to a single zone.
  • The sequence you set here shows up as a read-only Location Sequence value on the location’s own record under Locations & zones.

Open the Settings (gear) menu and choose Sequence Locations. You’ll find it alongside Form Customization, Manage Views, and Number Series.

  1. Choose a Site from the dropdown (required).
  2. Optionally choose a Zone to narrow the grid to just that area of the site.
  3. The grid lists each matching location with its code, type, description, zone, and current Sequence value.
  4. Arrange the rows into the order you want locations worked in, using either method (or both):
    • Click the up or down arrow on a row to move it earlier or later in the list.
    • Type a number directly into the Sequence column for a location.
  5. To number several locations at once instead of typing each value by hand, use Assign Sequence Number:
    1. Tick the checkbox for each location to include (or the header checkbox to select all currently listed).
    2. Click Assign Sequence Number.
    3. Set Start at (the first sequence number) and Step by (how much it increases or decreases for each subsequent location), and choose whether the sequence should be Increasing or Decreasing.
    4. Click OK. The selected locations are numbered in the order they currently appear in the grid, so arrange rows with the arrows first if you want a specific walking order.
  6. Click Save to store the sequence values.

The sequence value is meant to reflect an efficient walking path through a site or zone, so location-based work (most notably picking) can follow that order instead of a random one. Setting a sensible sequence (for example, numbering locations in the order you’d actually walk down an aisle) is what makes that benefit real; the numbers themselves don’t rearrange your warehouse, they just describe the path you want followed.

  • I don’t see Sequence Locations in the Settings menu. It’s only available on the Complete edition.
  • Assign Sequence Number won’t do anything. Select at least two locations with the checkboxes first; a single (or no) selection triggers a warning instead.
  • Save fails with a message about adding a location. The grid is empty for the site/zone you chose. Pick a site (and zone, if used) that actually has locations, or add locations under Locations & zones first.
  • I reordered rows with the arrows, but the numbers didn’t change. Moving rows with the arrows only changes their position in the list; it doesn’t renumber them by itself. Follow up with Assign Sequence Number (or type values manually) and then Save.
  • My changes disappeared when I switched site or zone. Save before changing the Site or Zone dropdown, or before navigating away; unsaved sequence edits aren’t kept.
