Picking an order

Picking is how you fulfill a pick order: pulling each item from stock and recording what you picked. You open the Pick page, select the order, confirm the quantity and location for each line, then complete the order. Wasp Inventory reduces your on-hand stock and updates the order as you go.

The Pick page

  • Picking requires the Complete edition (not available on Basic) and a role with permission to pick orders. If the Pick page isn’t in the sidebar, check with an administrator.
  • The pick order must already exist and be open. If it isn’t there yet, create it first.
  • Know the location each item is being pulled from.
  • Have any serial numbers, lot numbers, or date-code values ready for tracked items. You’ll record them as you pick.

Go to Pick Order → Pick. Select the order you’re fulfilling, and its line items appear in a list showing what the customer ordered and how much of each is still to be picked.

Work through the order one line at a time. Click a line to open it, then confirm:

  • the quantity you’re picking for that line,
  • and the location you’re picking it from: the place within the site where the stock is being pulled from.

Add each line to the pick queue as you go. The page tracks the available quantity for each item and how much of the order is still outstanding, so you can see your progress.

If an item is tracked by serial number, lot/batch, or date code (expiration), you’ll be prompted to record those details as you pick it. Open the tracking panel for the line and enter the required values so each picked unit is accounted for.

When you’ve picked everything you can, save the order with the buttons at the bottom of the page:

  • Save — records what you’ve picked and keeps the order open.
  • Close — records the pick and closes the order as complete.
  • Close with Backorder — closes this order and creates a backorder for anything not picked.

Before saving, you can tick options to print documents for the shipment:

  • Print Packing Slip — a packing slip to include with the goods.
  • Print Invoice — a pick invoice for the order.

Choose which report to use for each, and it prints when you complete the pick.

I can’t pick the full quantity. You can only pick what’s on hand at the site. Pick what’s available now and leave the rest outstanding, or close the order short with a backorder for the remainder.

A line won’t complete. If the item is tracked by serial, lot, or date code, the number of tracking entries has to match the quantity picked (for example, 5 serial numbers for 5 units). Fill in the missing values in the line’s tracking panel.

On-hand counts didn’t drop. Make sure you added each line to the pick queue and then saved. Quantities typed but not queued and saved aren’t recorded.

The packing slip or invoice didn’t print. Those print only when you complete the pick with the matching option ticked and a report selected. Confirm both were set before you saved.
