Mobility (mobile & scanners)
The Mobility area is home to the settings and tools that support Wasp Inventory on handheld scanners and mobile devices. If your team scans barcodes out on the floor, this is where you keep an eye on mobile activity and tune how those devices read labels.
Open it from the Mobility section in the left sidebar.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- Access to Mobility must be granted to your role. If the section isn’t in your sidebar, an administrator can enable it under Roles & permissions.
- Viewing the error log and viewing the setup pages are separate rights from editing them: you may be able to read a configuration without being able to change it.
- The configuration pages hold advanced parsing rules. In most cases the defaults work out of the box; only change them when scans aren’t reading the way you need.
Mobile Errors
Section titled “Mobile Errors”Mobile Errors is a log of problems that came up while a mobile device was working with Wasp Inventory (for example, a transaction that couldn’t be completed). Reviewing this list helps you spot what went wrong, follow up on records that need attention, and keep your mobile workflows running smoothly.
Mobile Set Up
Section titled “Mobile Set Up”Mobile Set Up opens a printable install reference sheet for connecting the Wasp Inventory mobile app to your account. It’s handy when you’re setting up a new handheld or mobile device.
Label Configuration and Scan Parsing Configuration
Section titled “Label Configuration and Scan Parsing Configuration”Two further pages under Mobility control how mobile devices interpret what they scan:
- Label Configuration — controls how labels are set up and recognized on mobile devices, so scans map to the right items and information.
- Scan Parsing Configuration — sets the rules for reading structured GS1 barcodes. GS1 barcodes pack several pieces of data (like a product code, lot number, or expiration date) into a single scan, and this is where you tell Wasp Inventory how to pull those pieces apart.
On each configuration page you edit the rules for a barcode type and then Save. If a change doesn’t work out, Reset to Default restores the original rules for that type, so you can experiment without losing the shipped defaults.
RFID Configuration
Section titled “RFID Configuration”RFID Configuration manages the rules mobile devices use to interpret RFID tag reads: the RFID counterpart to Label Configuration and Scan Parsing Configuration, which cover barcode labels and GS1 scans. Each configuration is a named rule set; select one from the list to view and edit its underlying rule content, then Save. Reset to Default restores the original rule set for that entry if an edit doesn’t work out.
If your role has the right access, you can also:
- Duplicate an existing configuration to use as the starting point for a new one.
- Delete a configuration you created. Configurations Wasp Inventory ships with can’t be deleted.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- A scan reads the wrong field. Open Scan Parsing Configuration and check that the parsing rules match the structure of the barcodes you’re actually scanning. Reset to Default if a past edit went sideways.
- A transaction failed on the handheld. Look it up in Mobile Errors: the log usually shows what the device couldn’t complete so you can correct the record or the data behind it.
- I don’t see RFID Configuration in Mobility. This page only shows up for accounts with the RFID add-on license and a role that’s been granted access to it. Confirm both the license and the permission with an administrator.
- I can view a config page but can’t save. Your role has view access but not edit access for that Mobility page. Ask an administrator to grant editing under Roles & permissions.
